The Patrol will take to the stage in a few hours at the Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey for their final support slot with U2 on the 360° tour.

Following a summer that has seen SP play two huge headline shows in Scotland and Northern Ireland, supporting U2 on several dates of their European tour and playing headline slots at Pukkelpop and Lowlands Festival, the band will now take a few weeks off before heading into the studio to begin recording their eagerly awaited sixth album.

During the summer shows, the band have continued their support of Amnesty International, who the guys have all been linked with over the last few years. Gary has worn the Demand Dignity campaign t-shirt (see above) on stage several times over the summer, and you can find out how you can get involved at amnesty.org.

Gary Lightbody's side project Tired Pony will release new single 'Get On The Road' on September 26th in the UK, it will be the second track to be taken from the album 'The Place We Ran From' which is out now in the UK and available on September 28th in North America.

Following the huge demand for tickets for Tired Pony's debut US show in New York on October 1st, the band have not only decided to move the show to a larger venue, but also add a second date in LA for the band's west coast fans.

The second show will take place on October 4th at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, with tickets going on sale on Saturday 10am (PDT) via ticketmaster.com.

Snow Patrol return to the live stage this month, when they take to the road alongside U2 on their 360 tour.

The Patrol support Bono and co five times over the next few weeks in Greece, Turkey, Russia and two shows in Denmark, alongside headline sets at both Pukkelpop and Lowlands on the 20th and 21st August respectively.

Second on the Ward Park main stage last week, Band of Hoses return this week in the same slot to play Glasgow.

With 3 albums already under their belt, this five piece lead by the lulling vocals of frontman Ben Bridwell , have slowly been building a strong and dedicated fanbase since their inception in 2004. 

Their latest album ‘Infinite Arms’ has just been released and debuted at number 7 on the US Billboard 200 and even midway through the year, the eskimos can predict they are a shoe-in to finish high in many critics end of year polls.

Not content with adding them just to the Ward Park bill, SP have also invited them to play a week late in Glasgow at the Bellahouston show as well.

Bursting onto the UK music scene in 2005 with their debut album ‘The Back Room’, Editors have over the last five years become one of the best loved bands in Britain. 

Now onto their third album ‘In This Light and on This Evening’, following the release of 2007’s ‘An End Has A Start’, they have been invited by the Patrol to get the Bellahouston crowd warmed up and voices in full song.

“Friends of ours for a long time now. I remember hearing Bullets (their first single) back in 2004 and not being able to play anything else for days. Following this weekend’s massive Ward Park show in Northern Ireland, the band and crew are heading to Glasgow, Scotland in preparation for Saturday’s show in Bellahouston Park.

As with last week, we will be building up to the show by profiling the support bands Editors, Frightened Rabbit and Band of Horses, who also featured on the Ward Park bill.

The second Guinness stage will also be heading to Glasgow and will feature some of the best local talent Scotland has to offer. Joining the bill at Bellahouston are Glasgow’s Moth and the Mirror, Aerials Up and Stornoway’s The Boy Who Trapped the Sun.

The next three bands, as well as General Fiasco are all from Northern Ireland and the fact that they are only the tip of a marvelous musical iceberg of a flourishing Northern Irish scene is a sign of astonishing things to come from our wee land.

Their album, the dawn chorus, is perhaps my favorite record right now. They may be the perfect festival band. a pleasure to have them on the bill.

A man i've admired for years although i'd be cautious telling him that. a true original. a low-slung country tinged hew bathes his songs  with a deathly tenderness but the man himself is as fierce and clear minded as any punk this wee berg has produced. there's no point  arguing with him but why would you bother when he makes music as good as he does.

One of our favourite bands from Norn Iron and we've had them as guests a few times before. Their new, David Holmes produced, album is stunning and will see them stride out into brave new worlds.

Opening the main stage this weekend will be General Fiasco, one of the many exciting new bands coming out of the Belfast music scene at the moment.

The band was formed in 2007 by brothers Owen and Enda Strathern along with Stephen Leacock, having met at High School in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Building a large local following, supporting, amongst others, The Wombats, The Enemy and even SP at the Odyssey Arena last year, they have quickly made their mark throughout the rest of the UK and Europe, where they will be playing the Pinkpop festival and Glastonbury festival this summer.

Our first profile for Ward Park and the artist choose to take to the Bangor stage just ahead of Snow Patrol will be Irish singer songwriter Lisa Hannigan.

Releasing her debut album in 2009, ‘Sea Saw’ bought Lisa critical acclaim from all sections of Irish and British media and led to nomi nations at last years Mercury Music Prize in the UK, Meteor Music Award in Ireland and picking up several awards in the Hot Press Readers Poll 2009.

We are now just days away from Snow Patrol’s return to Ward Park and what a gig it's shaping up to be.

If the excitement of seeing the Patrol for the first time in the UK  this year wasn’t enough, we can now announce the full line-up for the event, including a second stage of acts specially chosen by the band.

As previously announced joining Snow Patrol on the main stage will be, Lisa Hannigan, Band of Horses and General Fiasco , with the second “Guinness Stage” featuring some of the best new bands in Northern Ireland including Robyn G Shields, Cashie No. 9 and Cat Malojian.

Following the band’s stunning performance at the Forest National in Brussels last night, we are delighted to confirm that the Patrol will play at this summer’s Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium.

SP will headline the Friday night of the festival alongside The Prodigy, with Placebo, Iron Maiden and Queens of the Stoneage also set to appear at the festival, which is set to celebrate its 25th Year.

Snow Patrol kick off their European tour tonight at the Temodrom in Berlin, Germany.

The sold out show tonight begins a six date tour over the next two weeks that will build up to the two huge shows in Belfast Ward Park and Glasgow Bellahouston Park in June.

Tickets for the European tour went on sale months ago with only a small amount of tickets for tomorrow night’s show in Copenhagen and Monday night’s show in Belgium left available.

Ok so I disappeared a little bit there. In the words of Adrian Monk here’s what happened:

 

Eight years ago I fell down the stairs at the Art School nightclub in Glasgow. I busted myself up pretty bad. My eye closed over like a beaten boxer and I lost some teeth, which I got replaced in case you’re thinking to yourself “but I don’t recall him having missing teeth”. It seems dentistry has come a long way in the last while– all the Elizabethans had apparently was a bucket of white paint and the madness that came with the consequences of painting your teeth white and inevitably stripping away tooth enamel leaving only raw nerves. Yes my friends we can all be thankful of progress (some progress anyway). I got asked one time by a journalist which time period I would loved to have lived in. I can’t remember what my answer was then but thinking on that question now I’m saying no time period before the invention of modern dentistry and the discovery of penicillin. So I’m never going to bother finishing building that time machine after all. 

 

A while back I was telling a story…

 

So I took a bad fall eight years ago and was such a drunken asshole when Jonny Quinn (bless him) got me to the A&E (that’s the ER to our American brothers and sisters) that none of the seen-it-all-before-on-a-Saturday-night nurses gave (and rightly so) two shits about me upon my terrifying next morning wake-up. I tell you this people, waking up in a hospital bed you don’t remember getting into with missing teeth, only one eye and the worst hangover (ok come down) I ever had is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Not having a single enemy (maybe some folks don’t care for me but believe me when I tell you it’s pointless because I love all) it’s a moot point but I wouldn’t wish for an enemy to wish it on either. Because of my previous night’s arseholeness to the nursing staff the only thing they wanted was rid of me so there were no head x-rays taken at the time. Let me be clear right now I am not pissed off with the nurses at all. They take shit like I gave out that night (and worse) every weekend and I am only ashamed of myself not annoyed with them. Anyway a few years after that incident my jaw started to get very sore and has been a source of pain (often excruciating pain) for years and I have seen all kinds of people about it. My mistrust of western medicine meant though that never once did I get it x-rayed. Idiot! May I say to anyone in considerable pain right now, whatever way you go about treating it in the end the first thing to do is go get an x-ray or scan, then decide to go east or west with your cure. Anyway after we finished the Tired Pony record in Portland and I came down to LA with Garret to mix it and to start a film soundtrack my jaw got to be so sore that I couldn’t take it any longer and went to a doctor who promptly x-rayed me and discovered that it was dislocated. And for quite a while too. It was then that we traced it back to that incident at the Art School as it’s the only time I landed on my head from a great height. 

 

Wow, long story this time eh? Cut to now and I decided to stay in LA and get it dealt with. So here I am. Being treated by both east and west. West amounts to a dental appliance I have to wear for a few months and we’ll see where we go from there. Easternwise or at least holistically I’ve been getting acupuncture and this thing called Rolfing (sounds like a weird sex thing eh? Well it is. No it’s not. It’s very deep massage and manipulation of the muscles concentrating on, in my case, but not exclusive to, the jaw muscles). Plus I’ve been cycling and doing yoga and doing things to clear a very cluttered mind that never switches off and relax a body that hasn’t stopped moving in a decade or more.

 

The more I get into it the more I realise it’s down to me. I can, we all can, heal ourselves (for the most part anyway) with living well and trying to as happy and content with what we have as much as possible. My breaking point I guess came when I went straight from the take back the cities tour to the reworked tour and then, at the start of this year, tried to make three albums – actually two albums and a movie soundtrack – in the space of two months. 

 

A lot of people said this shit would catch up with me if I wasn’t careful and I paid them no mind. It seems, again, I was wrong, and they – people that cared for me – were, again, right. If I could give anyone some advice from all this is that you need to find time just for yourself every day. Doesn’t have to be a long time but just some quiet place or open space you can go by yourself and breath as deeply as possible for twenty minutes every day. Listen, don’t listen, up to you but it’s sure helping me.

 

I’m not some born again dafty all of a sudden and I would never start preaching piety of any sort as I still love a drink and a night out as much as I ever did. I just have to decide what’s more important: living well for 40 more years or living the way I have been for another ten if I’m lucky. I can’t imagine many of you reading this will have put the same amount of poisons into your bodies as I have over the years (sure was fun sometimes too although I wouldn’t recommend it) so I don’t expect anyone will need to think very seriously about what I’m writing here. Irish people, however, don’t do therapy so writing this is as close as I’ll get to that I suppose. Hope it wasn’t too boring to read. I am however, as always, an open book. 

 

Went to see Alice in Wonderland last night. Fucking hell it’s amazing. If you see it see it in 3D. I have never had so many moments in a cinema of pure wonder and joy since my first ever trip to the cinema with my father to see Return of the Jedi. I had the same feeling yesterday watching Alice as I did then. Thank you Tim Burton and, oh my good god, thank you Jonny Depp. The academy next year have to finally give that man what he has deserved for such a long time and it’s one of those gold statues of a well built man with no penis. He has been the most unusual and versatile actor of his generation and this is his very finest performance. He slips in and out of the Hatter’s multiple personalities so deftly and quickly you can barely believe your eyes and ears. Run, don’t walk, to see it.

Snow Patrol return to Holland this summer to play a one-off show at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.

The band will play the venue in Amsterdam on 31st May 2010 to dutch fans who last saw them storm the Pinkpop Festival in 2009.

Tickets for the show went on sale at 10am (CET) this morning and sold out within minutes, a second show has since been added but that too sold out with minutes of going on sale.

Right folks it’s a new year and with it new triumphs and new disasters. I try to refrain from hectoring on this site of ours but hector, a little, I must. 

With what has happened in Haiti it is now more important than ever to not give a damn about creed, colour or geographical position but realise instead it only matters that it’s happening on this earth right now. Not far, far away. Here, now. Terrifying how a nation can literally crumble to dust and bone and rock in the blink of an eye. The first person to try and fit this into ‘god’s great plan’ gets a punch in the nose. This is no plan. This is chaos. This is a very cruel reality that no one should have to suffer through alone. These people need to know the world is watching, it cares and is acting. 

There are many other things that need attending to in the world and we can’t all care about them all the time. That’s why we need charities like Save The Children, One and oneXone to do the hard stuff for us all. Charity is not a naughty word, apathy is. I was apathetic or at least bemused in earlier stages of my life. Bemused about how to help or what to donate to or even what to care about. Yes charity funds to third world countries are often misappropriated by greedy despots or corrupt officials and we should perhaps teach (give a man a fish…etc) rather than supplement but in the case of the complete destruction of Port-au-Prince in recent days money is necessary and fast. So giving something to charities like those above is vital.

I’ll not go on and on as I know you’ll all be as horrified as I am watching the footage from Haiti in the last few days with, I’m sure, the same feeling of paralysing powerlessness. Money may seem like an empty gesture but put into the right hands it can make a huge difference. I’ve seen it work (and also not work) in Uganda first hand and when it works (clean water, new schools, vaccinations and AIDS drugs) it is a special thing indeed. I’ll not bang my fist on the table like Sir Bob and yell at you but I could hardly just post up one of my usual rambling monologues in the light of what’s happened. Those of you expecting one of those well, all in good time. Snow Patrol have been nominated in three categories at the 2010 Meteor Music Awards.

The awards ceremony, that will be held at the RDS in Dublin on Friday 19th February 2010, sees Snow Patrol go up against (amongst others) U2 and Bell-x1 in Best Irish Band, Best Irish Live Performance and Best Irish Album for ‘Up To Now’.

Hello everyone, 

 

So we are off and running with the Reworked tour. Brighton was a lot of fun and the gig went great I think. Was nervous on stage for longer than I have been since the first gigs we ever did. Suppose it’s appropriate as we are looking back over the last 15 years. Thank you to all that came to the Brighton Centre on Wednesday night. May have been a little strange for some of you but it was for us too so we were all in the same boat. There are a few things that didn’t work and we’re gonna spend today’s soundcheck correcting that. 

 

I don’t normally watch us on the telly nor do I enjoy listening back over live recordings as I tend to spend the duration squirming in my seat and cursing at myself for bad vocal tuning so it’s best just to avoid it altogether for the most part. I did though watch children in need last night and thought the whole show was great especially Dizzy with Dame Shirley. I also thought Cheryl did a marvellous job of Set The Fire. It’s a tough song to carry off as the original singer of the song was Martha Wainwright, possibly the greatest female singer of her generation. It’s a tricky hill to climb because of that and few singers will get close to the pain, passion and soul of Martha. Cheryl tackled it with honesty and tenderness and, although some of you on this site haven’t been very kind to her about it, you should, at the very least, give her credit for that and the bravery she showed for even agreeing to do it in the first place. She was well out of her comfort zone and not many singers in her position would be daring enough to attempt anything like it.

 

All that said this forum is a place where you should feel free to voice whatever you think whenever you think it. I’m only giving you an alternative view to think on. Personally I like looking at songs in as many ways as possible and this tour is giving us all free reign to do just that in ways we’ve only begun to touch on. Exciting times for a restless spirit such as myself. Set The Fire itself will go through many more interpretations as the tour goes on. Strange and wonderful I hope as ‘strange and wonderful’ is my deepest hope for every day of life for all those I love and myself who some days I kind of like. 

 

Bristol tonight. It’ll be a slightly different set to Brighton. We’ll try and change it each night if we can, certainly in places where we have more than one show. One thing will remain the same though, the first half will be softer, quieter and will feature older songs so please do get there early if you want to hear some older stuff. We start at eight each night. After about 40 minutes we take a short break to have a wild sex party backstage. About half way through the second set things will start to get louder and do feel free to stand up and shake your tail feathers. I hope you do. 

 

Whatever happens I hope you all have fun. Am already really enjoying this tour and looking at the songs in new ways has made me fall in love with some of them all over again. Even Starfighter Pilot. There, I said it!

Following a stunning opening night of the tour in Brighton on Wednesday, where the Patrol performed a career spanning set including…. well actually, we’ll not spoil it for you.

The band head to Bristol tonight for a show at the Colsten Hall, before playing the Newcastle City Hall tomorrow night.

In the new series of Sky Arts 'The Great British Songbook' the SP front man will perform tracks including 'Chasing Cars' and 'Run' unplugged during an hour long episode set to premier on Sky Arts on Thursday 19th November at 8pm.

The highly anticipated Reworked Tour finally hits the road this evening at the Brighton Centre.

The tour will see the band play complete reworkings of songs the Patrol have been playing live for the last few years, as well dusting off some much loved old tracks and a few special delights. 

Each evening will consist of two halves and an interval. With the 11 extra musicians on stage for various numbers. There are no support bands on this tour, due to the nature of the performance(s). Please be seated and ready for the 8pm prompt start each evening.

On the day that sees the release of ‘Up To Now’ we are delighted to launch a free new Snow Patrol app for the iPhone.

The Snowflake app allows you to keep update with all things Patrol related, with the latest news stories, forum, photo galleries and even the chance to create your own snowflake.

The band will be doing the very same over the next few months, adding photos taken everywhere from the rehearsal studio to the stage during the forthcoming Reworked Tour that begins on November 18th. The first uploads from the band were taken last Wednesday when they played a very exclusive acoustic show for fans in the band’s local pub in London.

The Patrol performed live from Maida Vale this morning for the Fearne Cotton show on Radio 1.

While there, they also recorded three other tracks which were broadcasted during Greg James’s Radio 1 show. All five performances can be watched now via the Radio 1 website by clicking here.

Snow patrol are the latest act to be announced as playing this year’s Verses Cancer, Manchester’s biggest charity concert, which raises money for local cancer charities. Famous for its one-off sets and collaborations, the line-up includes Andy Rourke (The Smiths) and Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order). As well as a special set from Tim Booth, Jim Glennie and Larry Gott of Manchester’s legendary band James.

The patrol will be perform a unique set on the night featuring SP classics and what promises to be a memorable collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
