Re: Here we go again...... Another European trip is planned!!! - Luxembourg 25th July 2009

Thanks for the nice welcome!

I posted my review on another forum so here's parts of it:

We got to the venue shortly before 5pm and there were only a few people around.

It started to rain right when we arrived. Two girls were sitting at the entry already and so I started talking to them.
First in French, then when we talked about where we come from she said "Oh, so you're from Germany? Speaking German is a lot easier for us!" So that was fine. :-)
They went to a lot of other concerts before and love London and the UK as much as I do so time flew by and it was time to prepare bags to be checked and have the ticket ready...
We were among the first ones to enter the venue and so we had the best places: FRONT ROW CENTER!!

Shortly before 9pm Snow Patrol came on stage.
As I said it was my first time seeing them... and they blew me away!
Gary is such a great front man!!!!!
He was really interacting with the crowd.
He messed up the lyrics of the very first song and apologised for that, saying to biellebrunner "Hey, you know the lyrics a lot better than I do" :-D

Gary's comments inbetween songs were hilarious!

Like for example "You look miserable! Have you been dragged here by your girlfriend? There's a place for men here as well" Or something along these lines.
I'm sure someone else who's attended can type it up better than me...

During "Run" a girl standing close to us passed out and she was unconscious. Like a wet towel!
So they stopped the song until she was finally in a wheelchair and brought out of the venue. It was scary!!
But I love that they interrupted and waited until she was taken care of. So nice.
Then they started the song again and dedicated it to her...
Gary's comment was "Ok, if you see the headline "Snow Patrol puts people to sleep in Luxembourg" tomorrow - please boycott that newspaper from then on"

I didn't know every single song but I danced and jumped soooooo much!!
We were really having a LOT of fun.
I was jumping for entire songs and after that my legs were really hurting :-)

I have to repeat myself:
Phenomenal crowd interaction!!

They played for about 100 minutes.

I loved the fact that they played Coldplay's "Glass of Water" during the soundcheck and setting up the stage for Snow Patrol!!!

My friend got a setlist and me a guitar pick.

I was surprised how much time they took to talk to all of us at the backstage entry.
So sweet, nice and caring for their fans!!

If there's a concert in the future I can go to I definitely will!

Truly a fantastic night!
Everything went perfectly - it couldn't have been better.
It was so cute when they waved at us out of the bus later, too!!

Well, the crowd was a bit lame and the band confirmed that impression as well.
The only thing you can do in that case is just ignore it and have your fun.
There were two girls standing next to me - not moving at all during the entire concert. I'll never get that.
I bet I annoyed them BIG TIME with my dancing but what do you go to a concert for then??
Certainly not standing there like waiting for the bus when you are front row.
Isn't that nice for the band to see either I'm sure!

Glad you enjoyed yourself. SP always put on a good show.

Your pics are also very good. But I am very jealous, as I can see from the set list they played Tiny Little Fractures! You don't hear that little beauty very often, so would loved to have been there for that.

I heard that on the other forum as well!
I could only sing to the "ohh's" though :-)

I filmed some parts as well...
Won't have time to cut together a video now but I defintely will do after next week.
My camera can't really handle the loud sound well so my videos need editing.
I'll post it here once it's finished!

It's such a "fangirly" review... I feel a bit ashamed :-)
It's on coldplaying.com...

Coldplay fan too then?

Wouldn't tag it as "fangirly". It's how you experienced it and described it in your own way. That's what we enjoy reading! Nothing to be ashamed of!

Glad you got to meet them too after the show. They're the best!

Very much a Coldplay fan!
Saw them in Strasbourg last year and since then I'm hooked.
Even more after seeing them together with the Killers at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London in February...
(And I meant that my review on CPing is fangirly :-) Well, we all have our "internet personalities", right?)

I can't wait to read the reviews from the other girls though...
Especially biellebrunner's :-)

Re: Here we go again...... Another European trip is planned!!! - Luxembourg 25th July 2009

Wow im finally back home in my bedroom sitting here at my laptop filling all you beautiful people in on how the show @ the Rockhal went!!! :)

What a crazy weekend but oh so very very worth it!!!!!

Started off yesterday morning at London City Airport where I put my life at complete risk on a fokker 50 aircraft to Luxembourg... For those of you who dont know what a Fokker 50 is then google it or just imagina a propeller powered tin can of an aeroplane which is held together by selotape!!!!! It scared the fuck outta me on the flight over as this plane just didnt seem to have any guts to it whatsoever and I really dont think the 20 or so rest of the plane that were all American military type people shouting and screaming as the plane hit some major turbulance on the descent into Luxembourg really did me any favours!!!!!

Finally at Luxembourg with 1 life gone... 8 to go!! It couldnt have been any more straight forward... a tiny terminal building which by exact bus I needed to reach Luxembourg Centre was waiting outside so I hopped straight on headed to Luxembourg Central railway station and took the train down to Esch Sur Alzette where my hotel was!! I swear to god it was easier to find my way around Luxembourg than it is round London!!!!

Finally got to the Rockhal last night at just gone 7pm where I met a friend I had arranged to meet over there... havent seen him for like 6 months so was good to catch up!! Also happened to meet 4 people who had come from England (Milton Keynes) for a long weekend who had also come to see Snow Patrol which was really cool...!!! So Hi to all you lot if you happen to use this forum at all! The venue was in a really strange envrioment... A derilicked industrial area with remains of power stations and dis-used railway sidings... and stuck smack bang in the middle the Rockhal!!

Unfortunatly the SP tour bus was tucked away around the back of the venue and there was stern faced security guys with barriers up stopping people from getting anywhere near the backstage entrance :(

The venue itself was awesome!!! It reminded me somewhat of the o2 arena but obviously on a much smaller scale with no seating!! There must have been a good 4-5 thousand people inside and they all burst to life as soon as the lights went out and the take back the cities words was projected onto the screens behind accompanyed with "Friendly Fires - Jump In The Pool" which lead snow patrol into If there's a rocket tie me to it.....

The setlist was pretty much the same as previous shows on this tour as expected and to be honest Im just too tired to remember what was played in the exact order!!! It was a very pleasent suprise to hear Gary announce.. " some of you might not know this song as it's off 1 of our older albums and we havent played it live for about 4 years... which got me thinking omg what can it be.. it was only "Tiny Little fractures" from Final Straw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was unbeliavable seeing them playing this live as its such an old song which they really should play more often... they also played "Somewhere a clock is ticking" again which was great!!!

Then came "Run"..... During the 1st verse of the 2nd Chorus Gary suddenly started shouting "HOLD UP HOLD UP HOLD UP HOLD UP STOP HOLD UP" which the band stopped playing as requested and Gary announced could security come an help this young lady in the front row as she doesnt seem very well... then gary said "oh gosh.. oh my god somebody help her" at this point she had apparently fainted due to the heat inside the venue and as she was carried off by security over the front barrier Gary looked completley shocked... He asked if somebody could let him know if she was ok... in which led him onto saying... I think we should ermm STOP which made everybody laugh and he went onto say I think we should re-start that 1 and im dedicating this to the poor girl who' just collapsed infront of me... they re-started the song from the beginning... Ive caught all that on video so will upload to my youtube tomorrow!! Gary did joke after the sog the 2nd tim round that "If there's ay journalists in here tonight and they dont like what they see ad hear they will probably use the headling... Snow Patrol send Luxembourg crowd too sleep... literally!" lol which he chuckled to and the Luxembourg crowd rolled up at obviously refering to the girl who collapsed!!!

Everything about the show was perfect... the crowd... the venue... Gary was on top form... probably the best ive seen him for a long time!! The encore was the whole 3 parts of the lightning strike which seem to bore the crowd and alot had started drifting off but I stayed till the end and SP finished on a rendition of " Your all I have"

Finally got back to the hotel at just gone midnight and was kicked out the hotel at 11am this morning with my flight back to London Gatwick on British Airways this time thank god but not leaving till 7.15pm so i've been kicking my heels all day at Luxembourg airport!!!!

For those of you that are still reading.... thanks for getting this far and I just have to say another very succesful european sp trip done and dusted!!! :)

I will be uploading videos tomorrow to my youtube channel www.youtube.co.uk/ianthomson01 which will include the songs... "If theres a rocket" - "How To be dead" - "Run" - "Chasing Cars" - "Tiny little Fractures" - "Somewhere a clock is ticking" - and also a couple of short clips of Gary jabbering on about usual crap between songs and being funny about certain crowd members!!

A small selection of pics will go over to thethirdbar.com as well so make sure you check both those sites in the next day or 2!!!

Im off to rest my weary feet now and i've also bought back a shitty Luxembourg cold so out comes the vix vapor-rub as well as the tissues!!!!

P.s... Sorry i've missed out some letters on some words in this review but hey forgive me... im quite literally fucked and need my sleep!! :)
